Lesson 6 - Forhand drive – description

The forehand drive is a fundamental stroke in table tennis that kids can learn to enhance their gameplay. It involves using the dominant hand to hit the ball with a forward motion and is an essential offensive shot in table tennis. To execute a forehand drive, kids should start with a proper stance by positioning themselves slightly to the side of the table, with their feet shoulder-width apart.

They should hold the racket with a comfortable grip, ensuring a relaxed and firm hold. As the ball approaches, kids should focus on watching the ball closely and timing their shot. With a smooth and controlled swing, they should make contact with the ball just after the peak of its bounce. The racket face should be slightly closed, allowing them to generate topspin on the ball.

During the forehand drive, kids should aim to hit the ball with a forward and brushing motion, applying topspin to make the ball curve downward when it lands on the opponent's side of the table. This adds power, control, and depth to their shots, making it more challenging for their opponents to return the ball. To develop their forehand drive, kids should practice with a partner or against a wall, focusing on maintaining good footwork, balance, and coordination.

They can start by practicing short and controlled drives, gradually increasing the power and speed as they gain confidence. It's important for kids to have fun while learning the forehand drive. Encourage them to enjoy the process, celebrate their progress, and engage in friendly matches with their peers to further improve their skills. By mastering the forehand drive, kids can develop a solid foundation in table tennis and build their confidence to explore other techniques and strokes in the sport. With regular practice and a positive attitude, they will be well on their way to becoming skilled table tennis players.
