PROJECT SUMMARY

During the BETTALE project, we showcased the captivating aspects of table tennis to young children, primarily aged 5-8 years old. Our activities engaged the target audience in a playful manner, emphasizing the importance of making practices and tasks as appealing as possible. Play is vital for children at this age, and we drew inspiration from the training program used by the Dr. Professional Table Tennis Academy, which has been operating in Canada since 2015. We aimed to adapt and expand upon their "lunch break" program, initially designed for older students, to better suit younger kindergarten pupils.

Despite the fact that the participating table tennis clubs in the BETTALE project are grassroots organizations with less experience and newcomers to the Erasmus Programme, our goal was to create innovative e-learning materials that had not previously existed within the sport. This approach enabled the participating clubs to identify the most talented students consistently, a crucial aspect for achieving our long-term goals.

The involved kindergartens were able to incorporate table tennis education into their programs as a complementary activity, facilitating ongoing recruitment. Our developed training plan comprised 12 one-hour sessions, during which the fundamentals and corresponding player tasks were presented. The two participating clubs were responsible for this development. As the pilot program was implemented, feedback from the participating kindergartens was used to revise the professional materials created throughout the BETTALE project.

To enhance knowledge acquisition, we organized Learning, Teaching, and Training meetings every three months. During these activities, children and their coaches could share their experiences with each other. The finalized digital training plans were uploaded to the e-platform created within the project.

The activities carried out in the project have global applicability, as the created materials will be freely available to all interested parties, providing a valuable resource for table tennis enthusiasts worldwide. Materials are available here: https://bettale.eu/
